20 YEARS AGO

A woman with a pet rooster on Grinnell Street was accused of making a ruckus. The woman had been seen walking the rooster on a leash, but the problem was over the crowing.

The Navy informed local officials that if its housing could not be built on Peary Court, the land would be sold to the highest bidder.

An attorney ended up in jail after he showed up in the Plantation Key Courthouse with a diabetic monkey on his shoulder. He was in court to defend himself for a contempt of court charge.

50 YEARS AGO

Marathon physician Lloyd Damsey spoke to the Key West Kiwanis Club about a bill before Congress he said could be the road to "socialized medicine."

The Key West City Commission voted to remove all parking meters, except those in the city parking lot.

The Key West Chamber of Commerce asked the City Commission for $10,000 to support a convention bureau that was being activated.

100 YEARS AGO

The Florida East Coast Railway crew began work on building the retaining wall around Trumbo Point. The wall was 14 feet thick at the bottom and 5 feet at the top.
