MARATHON

New ROGO units discussed

The city of Marathon will hold a public workshop from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday about the changes to its comprehensive plan for the distribution of a 100 new transient units. It will be held at Marathon Fire Station 14, at 8900 Overseas Highway.

The state last month awarded the new Rate of Growth Ordinance units, which residents will be able to discuss, offering input and suggestions. The information will help the city address issues before presenting reports and ultimate recommendations to the city Planning Commission and City Council.

Search workshop open

The public is invited to a workshop next week that will cover the process of searching for the next Monroe County schools superintendent.

The School Board will hold a workshop with a consultant from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday in the School District boardroom at 241 Trumbo Road.

Anyone interested in the search process for the Florida Keys' first hired superintendent and possible future involvement in an advisory role is welcome to attend.

BIG PINE KEY

Learn safe boating in skills class

Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 13-03 of Big Pine Key is offering a Boating Skills and Seamanship class that starts Feb. 28.

The three-week course will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 1600 Key Deer Blvd. Turn Gulf side at the light on Big Pine, and immediately bear left at the "Y." The church is 1.6 miles from the light, on the left. The cost is $55 per person, materials included, or $80 per couple with shared materials.
